Sorry if this is a weird question, but are you the girl in the Shithead dating parody video?

…nah.

Just want to let you know that I've been watching a lot of Button poetry and "Heels" has to be one of my favorite selections. I hope you keep doing what you're doing and you get the support you need. If all goes as planned for me I'll be in San Diego this Fall, and I hope to see you live!

Hi Imani, I found out about you by watching your video "Heels". It really struck a chord with me-- I'm 5'11", and everyone always comments on my height or tells me to never wear heels or date a boy who is shorter than I am. I want to have the confidence to wear heels, but there's an ever present fear inside me of being judged or unwanted because of my size. What are your thoughts on finding confidence as a tall woman?

You just have to know that how someone feels about you/what you wear, isn’t about you at all. It’s their own projection. And that can be hard to remember when that person is in your face and your human reaction is to take offense or go inside yourself. But once you decide it doesn’t matter…then it doesn’t.

Releasing one's work to the world make them so vulnerable. There are so many writers who have great work, but are too afraid to share it, as people can have such cruel opinions and comments. When you first began writing poetry, did you keep it to yourself, afraid that I wouldn't be "good enough"? Or were you not nervous about people accepting it as great work?

Hi! I’m so sorry for the delay I haven’t checked Tumblr in years! But yes I was absolutely nervous when I first started. And I definitely still get nervous. But one of my mentors told me something important when I first started. She said, in relation to slamming, “It’s not about beating the other poets. It’s about to knowing your story is important enough to tell and doing so the best way you can.” That always really stuck to me. I’m always competing with myself so that my next poem is better than my last one. I challenge myself to be the best version of myself. That way, the comments don’t matter. Because I’m already satisfied.

You're amazing, thanks for being such an inspiration to young people like me! Much love xx

Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoy my work. I just logged onto Tumblr after years so I’m very sorry for the delay. But I truly appreciate your kindness. Thank you so much.

At BSU tomorrow we are going to talk about African American people who inspire us.. I was wondering how you pronounce your name exactly cause I'm not sure I'm saying it correctly.

Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoy my work. I just logged onto Tumblr after years so I’m very sorry for the delay. But to answer your question it’s pronounced ee-maw-knee say-zawn :)

Hey, you probably get this all the time, but whatever. I just discovered some of your poetry on YouTube, and I just wanted to let you know how amazing you are. Your words both inspire and humble me. Someday I hope to have the confidence to be as powerful, and awe-inspiring as you, but for now, I'm just going to keep listening to you speak.

Imani Cezanne has redefined how I see myself as a tall girl. I will wear heels, and if any boy is emasculated by that, he is not worth my time. Look her up if you’re into slam poetry, she is worth every view.

Definitely one of my favorite nights of all time. All the love was in this theatre that night. All of it.
